Q. I just bought this building. How do I know if I have a
fin tube, baseboard or convector system?
A. If you have a small pipe, parallel and close on the floor, with
aluminum or steel fins – rounded or square – about 1/4" apart,
this is the definition of a fin tube, baseboard or convector.
Q. Are fin tubes typically stacked?
A. Sometimes, they’re configured that way to generate more heat
and sometimes they don’t actually have “fins” – just pipes,
particularly in commercial installations.
Q. Are there “styles” of fin tube covers,
and how do you choose one?
A. Homeowners typically prefer the look of a perforated grill front,
and ARSCO offers three distinctive, grills: Grecian, Cloverleaf and
Octagonal Cane. All are ideal for residential fin tube covers.
Q. What about offices and other commercial buildings?
A. We offer the same fin tube covers described for homes,
plus louvered fin tube covers. ARSCO manufactures

Q. Is there a major difference between wall-mounted
and floor-mounted fin tube covers?
A. Floor mounted fin tube covers are stronger, because the
floor supports the unit. Wall-mounted fin tube covers are cantilevered
off the wall and offer less vertical load-bearing strength. But both
types can be designed to work in most situations.
We often suggest floor-mounted fin tube covers for major renovations,
because they hide imperfections! This is particularly true in
older school buildings and other places where there’s been a lot of
electrical work, wall patching, etc.
Q. Do floor-mounted fin tube covers cost more?
A. Yes – but the benefits out-weigh the small additional cost, and they
offer substantial advantages in terms of utility and appearance.
